Letter to STCC:

I just returned from the Bixby City Council meeting where they adopted a resolution to join Jenks to support the building of the south Tulsa bridge.  Four STCC members spoke at that meeting.  They all did not object to the building of the bridge but did state they were opposed to the bridge being connected at Yale Avenue.  It is agreed that when the bridge gets built it MUST be connected to River Road.  A member of the Bixby City Council spoke in favor of the bridge connecting to Yale, simply because it was on the long range plan. What he forgot to mention was before it was on the plan at Yale it was on the plan at River Road. Bixby  officials continue to speak about the bridge being a safety issue. Ron MacLeod contacted EMSA today and they said they are consistently making calls under the time that they have contracted with Bixby.
We all, as a large group, must stand firm on the location of the bridge on the Tulsa side.  It MUST be connected to River Road.  Yale MUST be left as it is to preserve quality of life and property values in that great residential area.
The Jenks city attorney also spoke but did not say anything we all had not heard before.

Thank you for your continued support. I will continue to work on behalf of all of my constituents.

Bill Christiansen

The following email was sent to Hunters Pointe residents:

Dear Hunters Pointe Neighbors,

The following email has been forwarded to me to distribute reminding everyone to vote Tuesday. If you care which street (Yale or Delaware / Riverside) will be the route for thousands more cars every day when the bridge is built, it's important to stay informed and voice your opinion at the polls. The links in this email tell where each candidate stands on the bridge issue.

FYI, W.C. "Tiny" Tomsen, who wrote the letter that appeared in the Tulsa World yesterday is to my recollection the only person who spoke in support of a Yale route at the early public meetings about the bridge. The hundreds of other residents in attendance from the neighborhoods along Yale did not want Yale to be the designated route. Bill Christiansen, our Councilor who is criticized by Ken Neal of the Tulsa World and W.C. Tomsen, came to his position of not supporting a bridge at Yale because he listened to what his constituents were saying at the meetings about the bridge.

As 16-year residents of Hunters Pointe and HP Board Members, my husband and I do not think Yale would be a good choice. As you know, except for the intersection at 101st, Yale south of the Creek Turnpike is a completely residential street. Jenks Southeast Elementary sits at that intersection and Town & Country School (K-12) is about one block to the East. Jenks Middle School is on 101st between Yale & Delaware. There is a great deal of school-related traffic on Yale, both buses and cars. This becomes a safety issue even more than it is now if thousands more cars were to be added daily.

We are not against the bridge, but we are against directing traffic up Yale. Delaware south of 101st is largely undeveloped, flows into Riverside Drive with a booming commercial area, has a connection to the Creek Turnpike, and is a good route to downtown. Another plus of the bridge connecting to Delaware would be some degree of straightening at "Dead Man's Curve", the very dangerous stretch of 121st & Delaware, where many accidents have occured. There are many reasons why connecting the bridge at Delaware makes the most sense.

By the way, STCC, South Tulsa Citizen's Coalition, is a name that those of us at the early meetings decided on to represent a unification among the neighborhoods. It is not a small group, as some people have said ... it is all of us, more than 30 neighborhoods along Yale.

Thank you,
Hunters Pointe Volunteer for STCC (name withheld by STCC)
